An Invitation from Anna Oggero (she/her),

Executive Producer, PROJEKT EUROPA

"At PROJEKT EUROPA, we work with and for migrant artists – and we know how deeply heartless political narratives can affect the lives, work, and sense of belonging of our community.

In light of the recent white paper on migration and the Prime Minister's use of inflammatory and divisive rhetoric, we're holding a space for migrants and allies to gather - to speak, to listen, to rage and to support each other. To be in community.

On Thursday 22nd May we're hosting two Devoted & Disgruntled Satellite events at Battersea Arts Centre – quickly assembled, but intentionally held. There’s no set agenda. No panel. Just an open invitation to come and talk about what matters most to you right now.

Whether you’re feeling angry, energised, reflective, or uncertain – you’re welcome to join. This is a space to speak freely, to share what’s on your mind, and to connect with others who understand the complexities of living and working as a migrant in the UK today.

We hope this gathering offers a chance to regroup, recharge, and imagine ways forward – together."

An invitation from David Furlong,

Artistic Director of EXCHANGE THEATRE,

a migrant artists led company, one of the co-founders of Migrants in Theatre, lobbying for our representation

"Recent divisive discussions around migration have highlighted the urgent need for connection and mutual support.
In solidarity, we invite you to join us for an open space: Devoted & Disgruntled satellite events will take place on Thursday 22nd May at Battersea Arts Centre, for two sessions, creating room for open dialogue and collaborative reflection in the day and in the evening. This is a space to speak freely, to share your feelings and thoughts, and to connect with others who understand the complexities of living and working as a migrant in the UK today. Whether you are a migrant artist or an ally. Together."

An Invitation from Varshini Pichemuthu,

Open Space and Community Participation Producer, Improbable

"As someone who arrived in this country to work and make a life, the nature of the discussions around immigration at the moment are bringing up feelings of uncertainty and vulnerability. At the same time, it made me want to connect with friends and colleagues who share a migrant background. It made me want to hold space for our community.

So, this is for us, to come together in Open Space, to share about what matters most to us right now. Whether you are an immigrant or migrant artist or perhaps an ally, you are all welcome.
I don’t have any answers and I know I don’t need to have them. This is a space for us to connect and share our feelings, thoughts and reflections.

In times of uncertainty, community is what I lean on. I hope to see you there."

Tickets
We use a Pay What You Choose (PWYC) model to make this event accessible to everyone. We never want the cost of Devoted and Disgruntled to prevent somebody participating in Open Space Conversations. The minimum suggested ticket price is £5. If this is a barrier, please do get in touch (or you can choose to pay £0). Improbable subsidises the cost of D&D Satellites as part of our Arts Council Funding National Portfolio Organisation status. However, our funding does not cover the full cost of the event. To cover overheads, we would need all attendees (40 people) to spend an average of £15 per ticket. That is a total of £600 towards the event.  Carers/Support Workers can access a free ticket if you are supporting the person you care for. Please contact us at [email protected] if you require this ticket.

You can read more on our Donate to D&D page here.
