Blind & partially-sighted

Information for people who are blind or partially-sighted

Expand

Devoted & Disgruntled events do have quite a visual bias especially at the start of the event, however there is plenty of help on hand to navigate you through the process. We can provide someone to guide you at any of our events. As well as helping you around the space, your guide can assist you to call and timetable any sessions you'd like to convene, take notes for you, and can assist with creating reports at the events as well.

Break-out spaces are indicated using high-contrast floor-cloths. If the venue permits, we can also create a floor-map using high-contrast tape. We will type up and print out the agenda wall information in large font.

If you'd like a guide, just let us know when booking your place on the individual event page. Alternatively, contact us in advance to find out more.

Children

Information for parents and carers

Expand

We don't provide childcare, but children are always welcome in the space if supervised by their parent or carer. At our larger events, we do our best to provide a child-friendly play space. See individual event information for details. We are also open to supporting networks of parents to club together and arrange a childcare solution that suits them.

If you'd like to give us feedback on Access provision at a previous event, please contact [email protected] or call 020 7240 4556. We are committed to improving Access wherever possible.

Neurodivergence

Information for neurodivergent people.

Expand

We welcome participants who have Autism or any form of neurodivergence. Open Space is always a 'relaxed performance'!

Personal assistants and carers are always admitted free of charge.

If you want to know more about what to expect at our events, you can click here for a clear-English guide to the Open Space Technology. We are happy to answer any questions about the process that you might have, so you can also contact us to ask for more information.

At our larger events we try to provide an extra room for people who need a bit of peace and quiet.

If you feel worried or are unsure of the process, you can ask the facilitator or co-ordinator for help at any time during the event. They'll make themselves known to the group at the beginning of every event.

Deaf and hard-of-hearing

Information about Access for Deaf and hard-of-hearing participants

Expand

For our larger ticketed events, we book two BSL interpreters as a standard provision. We will do our best to book more if there's demand for them. Sometimes budgets don't allow this, in which case you are welcome to bring your own interpreter who will be admitted free of charge.

At our smaller free events, we can provide interpreters on request with a minimum of one week's notice. Contact us on [email protected] to request BSL interpretation. We are also happy to provide lip-speakers if you prefer.

Acoustics at Open Space events can be difficult. We try to provide quieter break-out rooms where possible. We have one portable hearing loop which we set up at larger events to provide at least one break-out space that supports hard-of-hearing participants. We also have several Sonido hearing boosters you can borrow during our events. These work with your headphones or personal hearing loop to give a boost to speech frequencies.

Captioning for Open Space events is difficult as participants work in smaller break-out groups for the majority of the event, and captioning all the simultaneous conversations is not currently an option. We are investigating ways that we might be able to include captioning as digital technology improves. If you've got ideas about how captioning might work, we'd love to know about them. Contact us to tell us your suggestions.

Expand

All Devoted & Disgruntled events are wheelchair-accessible and we accommodate any form of chair or mobility aid at our events. See individual event pages for more information on specific venue details. We provide Disabled Parking facilities where possible. If you can't find the information you need, just contact us and we will find out any further details you require.

The Open Space process means you can move to wherever you need to be at any time. There are plenty of chairs in the space if you need to sit down at any time. Equally, if you are more comfortable standing, you are welcome to move around as you need.

If you'd like to give us feedback on Access provision at a previous event, please contact [email protected] or call 020 7240 4556. We are committed to improving Access wherever possible.

'Where is Radical Work?' - provocation called by Nenagh Watson re; Skipton International Puppetry Symposium

It appeared that there was more radical work happening in the 80's/90's and this could have been due in part ot government schemes like Enterprise Allowance and Housing Benefit? A great exchange of ideas with a good range of 'vintage' and emerging puppeteers.

Isolation - A stronger healthier puppet sector for everyone - How do we make it happen?

We held a conversation around the theme of isolation. Isolation is felt by many in the puppet sector for a variety of reasons. The puppet sector is made up of many branches and this creates challenges for individuals to network and navigate through the puppet community. Many new and younger artists have a clear need to discover and find support from their 'Puppet Family' and the sector as a whole needs to network better and find strength in its community. The conversation was really lively w
